Namco Land

Noo Noo and Krafty had the idea to go to Namco Land, which is three stories full of arcade games.

The first floor (the only floor on which there is an entrance) is all super cute claw grabber games. It’s an interesting choice.

The second floor is clearly divided into male-targeted action games and female-targeted photo booths. There are about eight or so of these photo booths, each with the same standard concept, but they seem to be differentiated by slightly different branding on the outside of the flaps. As you can see, they are clearly targeting the teenage fashionistas.

The third floor had some kid stuff like Pokémon, some creepy games, some racing games, darts (which seemed less fun in video game format than it would be without electricity), and some weird stuff. The Japanese take their video games really seriously. There were some hybrids of screen-based games that also had a mechanical “knock a token off of the ledge” style component, hubs that had stations all around them, and these weird pods in a very warm corner of the room that nobody went into; they weren’t very inviting. It seemed that this place was one fancy and very impressive experiment in how to draw in different types of gamers.
