Myron in Costume

Myron has always been an observant kid, and he is good at following and sticking with his interests. When he was fascinated with wheels, he would find wheels in places I didn’t know wheels existed. He would see a pattern on a park bench that looked somewhat round and call it a wheel. In the peak of his dinosaur fandom, he learned names and distinct roars for probably at least 20 species. Dinosaurs seem to have given way to superheroes now. And where once everything was a wheel, now at age 4, every household object is a costume.

The thing on his chest is a lid from a shape sorting toy. He had me tie a ribbon around it to make it a necklace so that he could wear it to school. The look reminded me a bit of Flavor Flav.

Here, we are using the cord from our headphones as a wristband.

The block on his forehead was originally part of a tool kit where one can screw and nail wood pieces together. He turned it into a mask.

This is a pop-up play tent in the form of a food truck. He put it on his head to make himself a mushroom.

In case it isn’t apparent, this is a mummy costume.

Here, we were fascinated with our best friend, Dominic becoming a big brother and then we were really interested in the concepts of transforming and metamorphosis and making chrysalises. So we drew the chrysalis on our skin.

If he doesn’t have a costume, he’ll just use his face and body language to mimic a character.

One evening at dinner, Em was telling me a story and got animated and started using her hands, so then Myron started doing the same.

Here we are using grippy socks to climb up the wall like a gecko.

And for more fun, here are some outfits that only a 4-year-old could pull off.
