Mike’s Holiday Box

Happy Labor Day Weekend!!!

Each year around this time, Boston welcomes close to 50,000 college students.  That makes up about 10% of its population.  In honor of Labor Day and the incoming college students – we would like to give a shout out to all those amazing people in our lives who are venturing off to college, either for the first time or returning to their hallowed halls as well seasoned students.

One of those people embarking on the college adventure is Em’s friend, Rebecca.  She gave me an awesome gift last Christmas. It’s a gift that keeps on giving.

What’s inside, you ask?

A Wind-up Hopping Egg

Seems tame enough at first glance, BUT it comes with costumes. The default is, appropriately, an Easter bunny.

Rebecca made two custom costumes for Christmas. First:

Then around the 4th of July, we got two more egg surprises in the mail. We had a hard time deciphering what this first one was until we saw the label.

And perhaps the most spectacular:

Now Rebecca is starting her first year of college at Kenyon College in Ohio. Em used to babysit for her way back in the day, so she is quite proud. And I have an awesome multi-holiday egg to show off Rebecca’s creativity and bring festivity to any occasion.

Two questions for you, the reader. First: how would you dress up an egg for its first day of college? Second: what would a holiday egg wear on Labor Day?

This is so exciting! Yay Mike’s Holiday Box!
Thank you, thank you for the good wishes. Everything is swell so far!

If the egg were going to Kenyon, tight pants, a grungy tank top, a cardigan, ratty shoes, and thick black framed glasses fit the bill. But that’s only if she wants to fit in. Personally, I would suggest the firecracker ensemble. Much more exciting and a good way to make a statement.

I think that Rebecca is right. Hmm, i think the egg should dress up as a chicken. For irony? Is that irony?

First things first, Rebecca what a great egg and idea!
For Labor Day, I’ll go with the obvious – A barbecue apron and a can of beer.
College is much harder to come up with. I’ll go with the classic preppie”
Blue oxford shirt with button down collar, khaki pants, tassel loafers, and
no socks. Sort of like City Boy.
