Deep Seven-Year-Old Thoughts

Myron winking and peering through tree branches

As a follow-up to How Things Work According to Myron, here are some more quotes I captured recently. I used to be in the business of trying to answer every question Myron asked. For reasons that will soon become clear, I have mostly given up on that and tend to reply with something like “that’s a good question” these days.

Myron said, “There aren’t many clouds in the sky. I guess people didn’t have many dreams last night.”

Em said, “Are clouds people’s dreams?”

Myron replied, “Yes, white clouds are happy dreams, and dark clouds are nightmares.”

This is a big rock. It must be one of the rocks that make up Earth.

I’m hungry. I thought I was full, but I can’t tell the future.

You know what money is? It’s just a bad idea. If we didn’t have money, homeless people wouldn’t have to save a lot of money to buy a house, and robbers wouldn’t have to rob things, so there’s nothing to worry about, and everyone would live a happy life.

Sometimes when I’m thinking about something, I feel like I’m not thinking about it.

Is heaven in another universe?

Why do people want to rule the world? That’s a lot of work to tell everyone what to do. It’s not like you just get to relax and people give you lemonade.

Since penguins live on the South Pole, why don’t they just fall off the Earth?

How is gravity made?

When I don’t like something, why do I keep looking at it?

When you die, do you stay in the same position you died in forever?

Why do people put on shows?

Why do we yawn?

(on getting squirted in the face with lemon juice)

Half of me was a clown, and the other half was me. The half that was me said, “Ah, I just got squirted in the face!”

And the clown said, “Ha ha!”

When you cut something with scissors, where does the middle part go? Oh, that makes sense. There are ghosts in scissors, and the ghost takes it over to one side.

How was the first seed of the first tree created?
